Microneedling

What Is Microneedling?

During microneedling, a device creates very fine, controlled micro-channels in the top layer of skin. This gently signals your skin to repair itself, which boosts collagen production and helps improve texture, tone, and firmness over time. It's a non-surgical treatment performed by a trained provider, with results that build gradually over a series of sessions rather than all at once.

Benefits of Microneedling

  1. Boosts collagen and elastin production for firmer, more youthful-looking skin.
  2. Softens the look of fine lines and wrinkles over time.
  3. Reduces the appearance of acne scars and pigmentation.
  4. Improves overall skin texture and tone.
  5. Minimizes the look of enlarged pores.
  6. Helps skincare products absorb more effectively afterward.
  7. Delivers visible improvement with relatively little downtime.

Am I a Candidate for Microneedling?

You may be a good candidate for microneedling if you:

  • Want smoother, more even-looking skin.
  • Have mild scarring or uneven texture.
  • Are noticing early signs of aging.
  • Want a non-surgical skin treatment.
  • Are looking for a treatment with minimal downtime.

A consultation at Serene Beauty & Browz helps determine whether microneedling is right for you, based on your skin condition and goals.

Who Should Avoid Microneedling? (Contraindications)

Microneedling isn't the right fit for everyone. You may need to wait or choose a different treatment if you have:

  • Active acne breakouts, cold sores, or a skin infection in the treatment area
  • Used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 6 months
  • Keloid-prone skin or a history of slow/poor wound healing
  • A blood clotting disorder, or you're currently taking blood-thinning medication
  • A recent sunburn, or an active eczema or psoriasis flare-up in the treatment area
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Your provider will review your health history at your consultation to confirm microneedling is safe and appropriate for you.

How to Prepare for Your Treatment

  • Avoid retinol, retinoid creams, or other strong exfoliants for 3–5 days before your appointment.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least a week beforehand.
  • Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotion, or sunscreen on the treatment area.
  • Let your provider know about any medications, recent cosmetic procedures, or skin changes before you begin.

What to Expect During Treatment

Your provider will cleanse the treatment area and apply a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable, then use the microneedling device to treat the area in controlled passes. A typical appointment takes about 45–60 minutes depending on the treatment area and add-ons like LED therapy or a peptide infusion.

Downtime & Aftercare

Most clients see mild redness for 24–48 hours afterward, similar to a light sunburn, with little to no real downtime.

  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment.
  • Stay out of the sun and wear SPF daily for at least a week afterward.
  • Skip intense workouts, saunas, pools, and hot tubs for 24–48 hours.
  • Hold off on retinol and other strong actives for several days, until any redness has fully resolved.
  • Keep skin moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free product, and contact us if you notice anything beyond mild, short-lived redness.
